Open Eye Photographic Gallery Curator Visits University of Bolton to meet with BA (HONS) Photography Students.

Students from the University of Bolton Photography department met Thomas Dukes who was visiting from The Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool. Open Eye are one of the oldest photographic galleries in the country:

Launched in 1977, Liverpool’s Open Eye Gallery was one of the UK’s first dedicated photography galleries. Excluded from the programmes of art galleries, photographers and others with an interest in the medium established their own network of galleries in the 1970s and ‘80s, drawing on newly-available funds from the Arts Council and a growing sense of photography’s artistic, social and political potential. (www.openeye.org.uk, 2016)
Thomas spent the day talking to students about exhibiting photography, preparing portfolios and discussing the history as well as the current programming of the Gallery. We are grateful for Thomas's generous support and his good humour.
